Material Handler

Position Summary

Responsible for loading semi-trucks with co-products produced at the plant. The position is also responsible for some maintenance activities associated with front-end loaders, skid loaders, and grain handling equipment such as conveyors, grain legs, baghouses, etc. The position is also responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the facility grounds, including lawn mowing and snow removal. The position will also help in the scale room, weighing trucks, and grading corn. Material Handlers will work an 8-hour shift schedule primarily Monday-Friday.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Computer skills: basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively with computerized maintenance management system.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.

Principal Duties

Material Handlers will work an 8-hour shift schedule primarily Monday-Friday. Occasionally, overtime and weekend shifts will be required.

  • Unload grain trucks to maintain adequate plant inventories.
  • Load co-product trucks utilizing front-end and skid loaders.
  • Operate scale when needed. Weigh inbound/outbound trucks and grade corn.
  • Communicate regularly with scale room, maintenance, and operations departments.
  • Follow all plant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the plant is clean and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Participate in Quality Assurance program

  • Communicate directly with QA lab to ensure effective participation in implementing QA policies and procedures for the plant processing equipment.
  • Sample and test process streams as required by the QA program and procedures.
  • Maintain QA records.
  • Understand and interpret QA results and take appropriate action when required.

 

Participate in Plant Maintenance program

  • Communicate directly with the Maintenance Department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in grains areas.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities as required.
  • Assist maintenance techs in performing maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting maintenance-related issues.

 

Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.

  • Be familiar with and understand city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to process operations and work in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times.
  • Participate in plant safety program and must follow all procedures at all times.

 

Other

  • Participate in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Working Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions; must be able to climb ladders and to work in high, precarious places; and outdoor weather conditions. Must also be able to lift objects up to and including 50 pounds.
  • The employee may be occasionally exposed to high noise environments.
